Presentations
Workshops

Q: How long are your presentations?
A: They are timed to fit a one hour lesson apart from primary schools which fit a thirty minute session. This includes time to move.

Q: These times don’t suit me, can I change the times?
A: Yes, but we have found that our timings were best. There are, however certain minimums and maximums, the presentations really cannot be shortened to less than 15 minutes or lengthened past 90 minutes.

Q: What AV equipment do you require?
A: We need the largest screen you have – a white wall works very well and a projector (high luminosity if possible). For the sound we need volume! The presentations include videos of rockets and when you are in a big hall a pair of computer speakers just don’t work. – if your school does not own a PA system a guitar amp works well.

Q: How many children can you present to?
A: We have, before now, given the lecture to a group of as little as 13 and as large as 300. For maximum effect I would suggest around 40-60 children. This is not a lesson, this is an experience and large groups are welcome.

Q: How many people should we expect?
A: Unless otherwise informed we will provide one presenter. If possible could you provide school lunches and coffee, thank you!

Big No-No’s
Interactive whiteboards – these are normally very small and not suited to the presentations (If you have a very small number of children, i.e. under 20 then they are okay)
Computer Speakers – They just don’t show the enormous power of rockets.
Please allow time for children to move from place to place.
Surprising the children with the space day – we find that the kids just don’t know what’s going on. If they are told about it in advance they can research the subject on the internet and with books.

Great Tips
Your big school hall, a big screen or wall, a big loud sound system and lots of kids and staff… It is an experience they will remember!
If you are a secondary school why not invite your feeder primaries? This is a great opportunity to showcase your school to the children who will one day be your pupils.
An evening presentation. Many schools have a community fund and this is a perfect chance to foster good relations with your local neighbours. Many parents are interested in space and would like to know more. But don’t forget to tell everyone! If you wish we can even advertise the presentation on our website – It’s a great chance to improve your visibility as a vibrant, succeeding school.
If you are producing promotional material – Ask us! We can send good quality pictures in a variety of computer formats.

Finally may I say thank you for considering a visit from OWL. We have a chance not just to educate the children, but to change everyone’s perceptions of what is possible.
